On May 29th, 1975, Steve Prefontaine took to the track at Hayward Field for the last time. He ran a gutsy 5000m race, beating Frank Shorter, 1972 gold medalist in the marathon. In his last race, Pre wore a black "Norditalia" singlet. I've heard many versions of why he wore this singlet, and the most logical story I've heard is that he traded with someone at an international meet. "Norditalia" means Northern Italy, and it is a common practice and show of goodwill for athletes to exchange jerseys at sporting events.
Pre was a catalyst for many changes in the sport of Track and Field that he unfortunately was not able to witness.
Freedom of sport,
Jin
I've always wanted my own Norditalia singlet, but could never find one anywhere. I finally decided to just make them myself, and that while I'm at it, I might as well share with the rest of the world. So here they are. I don't have very many to sell, so get your's fast. I had to improvise in places (especially the crest) because I could not tell exactly how it looked. The tanks are printed on high quality American Apparel Fine Jersey Tanks, which retail for $15 without anything even on them. I was selling my Norditalia singlets for $25, which included shipping and handling.
I am completely sold-out of all sizes, and at this point in time I do not plan to make any more. Thank you so much to the people who purchased them. I hope your are enjoying your one of a kind Norditalia Prefontaine singlet. If you send me pictures or testimonials, I will gladly post them here. I will also consider the possibility of making a second batch if I hear enough interest.
*I highly recommend that you sew the patches if you want it to survive your runs/races and the washing machine. It should probably also be hang-dryed.
